Outbound, Pipeline and SaaS Prospecting Terms. Role-targeted keyword map with ATS-safe placement strategies.
SDR resumes are screened on segment, quota attainment, and stack, so state whether you ran outbound or inbound, name the market you sold into and the average deal size, give attainment as a percentage against a stated quota, and list your sequencer, CRM, and data tools by product name.

Analyze Role KeywordsSales development splits into two motions that share a title and almost nothing else. Outbound development starts from a target account list and builds interest from nothing, which means account research, multi-channel sequences across calling, email, and social, high call volume, cold objection handling, and multi-threading into several stakeholders at one account. Inbound qualification starts from demand that marketing already created, which means speed to lead, qualification frameworks applied under time pressure, routing rules, disqualification discipline, and close coordination with campaign owners. Hiring managers know exactly which one their pipeline gap requires, and they screen for it in the first line of your experience.
Say which you ran, and if you ran both, split the evidence rather than blending it. Outbound evidence looks like accounts worked, contacts added, sequence design, connect rate, and opportunities created from cold. Inbound evidence looks like response time, lead volume handled per day, conversion from inquiry to qualified opportunity, and disqualification rate with reasons. Naming the framework you qualified against, whether that is one of the widely used enterprise qualification methodologies or a simpler budget and timing framework, is worth doing explicitly, since many postings list the framework by name and search for it.
Sales leaders evaluate development candidates on whether the motion transfers, and segment is the shorthand for that. Small-business prospecting is high volume and short cycle, with one or two decision makers and fast disqualification. Mid-market adds a longer cycle, more stakeholders, and more tailoring. Enterprise prospecting is patient, research-heavy, and account-based, often involving named accounts worked for quarters at a time, coordination with field sellers and marketing, and outreach to senior titles who are heavily prospected already. A resume that does not state the segment forces a reviewer to guess, and the default guess is the least demanding one.
Fill in the surrounding detail that makes segment concrete: average contract value or deal size, the number of accounts in your patch, whether the territory was geographic, vertical, or a named account list, and the buyer titles you actually reached. Vertical specialization is worth calling out when it exists, because prospecting into regulated industries, healthcare systems, public sector, or financial services involves different access constraints and different credibility requirements. If your company sold a technical product, naming the technical concepts you had to hold your own on tells a reviewer you can ramp into a similar product rather than needing to learn the category from scratch.
The number every development resume leads with is meetings booked, and it is the least informative one available. Sales managers care about what survived: meetings actually held after no-shows and reschedules, opportunities accepted by the account executive rather than bounced back, pipeline value created, and ultimately closed revenue sourced from your work. Reporting the chain proves the meetings were real. Reporting only the first step invites the assumption that they were not. Where you can, add the conversion rates between stages, since a reviewer immediately understands what a healthy held-to-accepted ratio looks like in their own business.
Frame attainment properly around those outcomes. Give the quota, its unit, the period, and your attainment together, then add consistency evidence such as the number of quarters at or above target, and ranking against a stated team size if the ranking is genuinely good. Activity metrics belong underneath as supporting texture rather than headline claims: dials and connects per day, connect rate, sequence reply and positive reply rate, and email volume all show work rate, but they never substitute for outcomes. If you beat a ramp schedule or hit quota during your first full quarter, say so with dates, since ramp speed is one of the few leading indicators managers trust.
Sales development is one of the most tooled functions in the company, and the tools are searched by name. The stack has clear layers: the customer relationship management system of record, the sales engagement or sequencing platform, contact and company data providers, intent and account intelligence tools, dialers including parallel and power dialing, conversation intelligence and call recording, meeting scheduling and routing, and increasingly list-building and enrichment automation. Two engagement platforms dominate the mid-market and enterprise, and they are not interchangeable in a recruiter's search, so name the one you actually used rather than describing it as a sales engagement tool.
What separates a strong development resume from an average one is what you built inside the stack. Writing and testing sequences, running message experiments and reporting on reply rate differences, building target lists from firmographic and intent filters, keeping records clean enough that reporting is trustworthy, and creating call frameworks or objection libraries the team adopted are all contributions a manager can picture. Coaching and enablement work counts too, since teams promote from within and a candidate who has onboarded newer reps or run call reviews is closer to a team lead than to a seat filler. Close with recognition and any formal sales training or methodology certification, both of which appear directly in postings.
| Signal | Why It Matters | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Resume claims meetings booked with no mention of meetings held or opportunities created. | Booking rate without downstream conversion is the classic sign of low-quality prospecting, and sales leaders check for it immediately. | Report the full chain: meetings booked, meetings held, opportunities accepted by sales, and pipeline value created. |
| Attainment given as a percentage with no quota attached. | One hundred and twenty percent of eight meetings a month and of twenty-five are not comparable achievements. | State the quota, the unit, the period, and the attainment together in the same line. |
| No segment or deal size anywhere on the resume. | Transactional small-business prospecting and multi-threaded enterprise prospecting require different research depth, cadence design, and patience, and managers hire for one. | Name the segment, the average contract value, the typical buyer titles, and whether accounts were named or territory-based. |

Follow this guided reading path to build topic depth and improve your ATS outcomes faster.
Show the behaviors the job actually rewards rather than claiming the title. Volume tolerance and consistency, comfort on the phone, written clarity in short messages, research discipline, and coachability are what managers screen for in first-role candidates. Concrete evidence works better than adjectives, so use any role that involved outbound contact, targets, or objection handling, and add any hands-on familiarity with the standard stack, since knowing the sequencer and the data tools removes a chunk of onboarding time.
Only in a way that reads as ambition rather than impatience. If you are applying for another development role, showing that you have taken on discovery calls, run full cycle on smaller deals, or mentored newer reps demonstrates readiness without suggesting you will leave the seat immediately. If you are applying directly for a closing role, restructure the resume around the closing evidence you have, including deals you sourced and closed, average deal size, and the methodology you ran discovery with.
